Aspiring content creators, photographers, and videographers, this one is for you! 

STORYTELLING LAB is a free 10-week creative program for 18- to 24-year-olds who want to get better at making things people actually want to see, hear, and share. Students will get hands-on with photo, video, audio, and social content using professional equipment at Sparkhouse Uptown while working alongside creative pros and creating real projects for local small businesses. You will leave with new skills, connections, and portfolio-worthy work.

Think you know Canva? Think again. 🎃 In this two-part workshop students will explore graphic design while creating their own Halloween themed poster from scratch. Come ready to get spooky and design something scary good. Free and open to high school students only. Spots are limited!

It is your turn to be behind the lens. In this two-part hands-on workshop students will dive into the art of portrait photography, learning how to capture personality, emotion, and story through a single frame. From lighting to composition, students will walk away with new skills and shots they are proud of. Free and open to high school students only. Spots are limited!

In this two-part workshop, students will step into the world of apparel design and experience what it takes to create a product from concept to finished piece. Over two days, students will explore the fundamentals of design, understand the value of creativity in the fashion industry, and develop their own original beanie design using Canva Pro. On production day, students will cut their DTF designs, learn how to use a heat press, and walk away with a custom beanie they designed and made themselves.

Arts+ and Do Greater Charlotte are partnering to offer a free 12-week afterschool program for 7th–10th grade students to design, make, and sell their own products! Students will use tools like Procreate on iPad to create logos and designs, turn them into items like tote bags, stickers, buttons, and keychains, and learn how to price and sell their products.  The program ends with a pop-up market, where students sell their handmade creations to family, friends, and the community!

Start Upward Essentials is a 10-week after-school program for teens ready to transform their passions into real-world action! Through hands-on activities, inspiring guest speakers, and creative challenges, students will learn to dream big, take risks, and launch their ideas with confidence.  Program will meet each Mondays, Sep 21 -Dec 7, 4:00-6:00pm.

Students will leave Start Upward with:

• The skills to start and pitch their business
• Confidence to turn their ideas into reality
• Tools to articulate and refine their vision
• Clear next steps to bring their idea to life
