FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Do Greater Charlotte Receives Lowe’s 100 Hometowns Community Grant, Benefitting West Charlotte Youth Creative & Innovation Lab

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- June 23, 2022 – Do Greater Charlotte was awarded a $100,000 grant as part of Lowe’s Hometowns, an initiative that is helping to restore and revitalize spaces that serve as the hubs and heartbeats of communities.

Do Greater Charlotte will outfit their Tech Hub and continue construction improvements to the CRTV (Creative) Lab @ Shiloh located in the Camp Greene/Ashley Park communities off Wilkinson Blvd and Morehead Street in Charlotte, NC.

“We at Do Greater Charlotte are extremely excited about Lowe’s participation in our effort to build creative confidence in youth, said William McNeely, Founder and CEO of Do Greater Charlotte. Lowe’s has always been a place that ignites creativity in communities across the country and now they are
supporting a space designed specifically to tell all youth that their ideas matter and should be pursued.”

The CRTV Lab @ Shiloh is an 8,000 square foot creativity and innovation space providing training opportunities in design, entrepreneurship and digital media for under resourced Charlotte youth. The space will become a hub for the creative community to engage with youth interested in graphic design,
architecture, music/video production, photography, coding and other creative disciplines.

Do Greater Charlotte will use the funds to further the construction of the upcoming CRTV Lab at Shiloh, expected to be open in August 2022. The Tech Hub will be outfitted with computers, 3D printers, prototyping tools and AR/VR technology creating a hub for youth to develop ideas, build, and test
prototypes and develop valuable digital and creative skillsets putting youth on the pathway to a successful career. The Lab will also host digital literacy workshops for the wider community. Additional improvements include a kitchen remodel and landscape improvements.

The CRTV Lab is housed in Shiloh Institutional Baptist Church in Camp Greene and will serve the entire Freedom Drive, West Blvd and Wilkinson Blvd corridor. The first floor, nearly 8,000 square feet, is being converted into a permanent creative and innovation space for youth. It will also house production studios, event spaces, and a local non-profit coffee shop for community gathering.

If you’d like to speak to William McNeely, Founder/CEO of Do Greater Charlotte about the project, or if you’re interested in visiting the project site at some point, please reach out to wm@dogreater.org to coordinate.
