The New Creative Lab Uptown is Back in Motion

Hi Friends,

I want to first of all say thank you for supporting Do Greater Charlotte over the past year. Because of you, we’ve continued to support, train, and mentor over 800 youth through our Creative Labs, studios, and programs across the city. Together, we’re proving what happens when young people are given the tools, the space, and the belief to do greater things.

And now—we’re building again.

I’m excited to share that construction on our new Creative Lab Uptown will officially restart on November 13th, with completion scheduled for early 2026. What began as a dream is quickly becoming a defining project for Charlotte: a space built for creativity, entrepreneurship, and upward mobility right in the heart of Uptown.

The Creative Lab Uptown (CLU) is a 20,000-square-foot innovation and entrepreneurship hub located inside a historic 1921 automobile showroom at 500 North Tryon Street. It’s designed to be more than just a building; it serves as an engine for opportunity. The building is owned and supported by former Mayor Harvey Gantt, who has been an incredible champion. His enthusiasm for seeing it become a hub for mobility and opportunity has been truly inspiring.

Inside the CLU, we’re creating spaces that move people from potential to purpose:

Every space serves one mission—to build cross-class connections that power economic mobility. The Lab will connect youth from underestimated neighborhoods to the mentors, innovators, and industries that shape our city’s future.

In a city working hard to climb the ranks of upward mobility, spaces like this are essential infrastructure. The Creative Lab Uptown is more than walls—it’s a bridge. It’s where creativity meets community, where hope turns into action, and where opportunity becomes tangible.
